Afro-Cuban Religion

In the town of Trinidad in southern Cuba, parishioners bring yellow flowers to the Virgen de la Caridad and red ones to honor Santa Barbara.  The virgin is the patroness of Cuba but is also venerated as Oshun, the Yoruban orisha of love and marriage, whose favorite color is yellow.  Santa Barbara represents Chango, god of war, in Afro-Cuban religion. Santería is so prevalent that the Roman Catholic Church allows veneration of the saints as orisha, to a point.
